Safe, functional and comfortable work equipment consists of several layers. We also call it the 3-layer system. If you wear three layers, you will stay dry, warm and are optimally protected against all risks and conditions in your working environment. We hereby give you some tips to ensure that you can carry out your work comfortably through your choice of work clothing.
The 3-layer system stands for building up cold-resistant work clothing in three specific layers:
- Thermal clothing and/or thermal underwear
- Insulating intermediate layer
- Protective outer layer
First layer of thermal clothing
It is very important to always start with protective, soft underwear with the 3-layer system. The base layer consists of thermal clothing. You can then choose one thermal shirt, thermal trousers or thermal underwear. Good baselayers are distinguished by high thermal efficiency, optimal ventilation and antibacterial protection and extremely pleasant wearing comfort. Various thermal clothing brands feel like a second skin, such as Helly Hansen thermo and Craft thermo. Choose your thermal shirt and thermal pants below.
Fleece middle layer
The second layer of the three-layer system is the insulating intermediate layer. This workwear helps keep you extra warm at low temperatures and provides maximum comfort. Act as an insulating intermediate layer sweaters, fleece jackets, fleece vests or fleece sweaters very suitable. Because fleece is so comfortable, it is often used as a cardigan or sweater. Clothing such as fleece vests, sweaters or sweaters offer easy-care, versatile protection against the cold. The synthetic fibers do not absorb moisture and weigh much less than wool. Fleece is durable, easy to wash, dries quickly and hardly stretches or shrinks. Perfect as an intermediate layer with the 3-layer system. Brands like Helly Hansen and Tricorp have a nice range of fleece jackets, fleece vests, fleece sweaters and sweaters.
Winter work jacket as a third layer
A winter work jacket is the outer layer of the 3-layer system with the EN342 or EN14058 standard. This is for protection against cool and cold conditions. It protects you against wind, rain, snow and cold, but also ensures that excess moisture is driven away and evaporated. If your work takes place (partly) outside, you naturally want a waterproof work jacket that will keep you warm when temperatures are low. Many winter work jackets from brands such as Helly Hansen, Blakladen and Hydrowear meet the EN342 or EN14058 standards.
Workwear accessories
In addition to thermal clothing, fleece clothing and a winter work jacket you can complete your 3-layer system outfit by choosing various winter accessories such as a hat, neck protection or a balaclava.
