Collection: Safety Shoes S1P

Want to buy S1P work shoes? S1P is a safety standard for work boots which in many ways resembles the S1 standard, but with an important difference: S1P work shoes have a steel or steel-free midsole to prevent your feet from being pierced by nails, sharp tools and other sharp objects.

Safe, light S1P work shoes

The midsole in S1P work shoes can be made of steel or plastic. In the latter case it usually concerns Kevlar. Kevlar is more flexible than steel. That is why most people find S1P work shoes with Kevlar midsoles more comfortable than the steel version. If you choose one of these safety shoes with a protective toe cap made of carbonite or another plastic, you can also count on lightweight work shoes. Thanks to modern materials, it is no longer necessary to use a lot of plastic, which results in work shoes that fall out considerably. The shoes remain compact and therefore comfortable.

The degree of protection is simply laid down in the EN ISO 20345 standard. It states that the protective nose must not dent in the event of an impact of up to 200 J, which is approximately equivalent to a 20 kilo object falling on it. Moreover, according to this standard, the midsole must resist perforation with a force of at least 1100 N. Do the shoes you have in mind have the S1P standard? Then this protection is guaranteed, regardless of the choice of metal or plastic. This is not important for determining the degree of protection.

S1P work shoe: steel or plastic midsole?

If you have your eye on a pair of S1P work shoes, there is a good chance that you chose work shoes with this safety standard precisely because of the anti-perforation midsole. For these midsoles you can choose between steel midsoles and synthetic midsoles, such as Kevlar. Which choice best suits your work depends partly on the circumstances. In any case, it doesn't matter for protection; If the work shoes have the “S1P” icon, they are guaranteed to protect against perforation with a force of at least 1100 N. Steel is very reliable when it comes to preventing perforation, but plastic is more flexible and is therefore often found more comfortable. In addition, plastic reacts considerably less to the ambient temperature. That is why we recommend S1P work shoes with a plastic midsole if you work in a cooled place. You can also create the perfect sole with insoles.

Need more protection than S1P work boots?

S1P work shoes are widely used in the transport and warehouse sector. The trendy-looking work sneakers that you can buy from us are certainly popular because of their sporty, modern design. However, there may be risks in your workplace that S1P work shoes do not provide sufficient protection against. This may be the case, for example, because you work with water, oil or fat. S1P work shoes do not have the water-repellent fabrics that shoes with a high standard, such as the S2 work shoe or S3 work shoe, do have. This makes them not suitable for humid environments.

Do you need protection against oil and moisture? Then we would like to refer you to our S3 work shoes. Although S2 work shoes are water resistant for up to 60 minutes and equipped with an oil-resistant sole, they do not have a midsole that prevents perforation. S3 work shoes do have these and are therefore suitable if moisture and sharp materials on the ground can damage your feet. For complete waterproofness, you could also take a look at our work boots. S5 work boots do not allow water to pass through and also have such a midsole.
