Bedrijfskleding wassen: waar moet je op letten?

Washing work clothing: what should you pay attention to?

Just like with all other clothing, you should also regularly soak your work clothes in soapy water. After all, you want your clothes to smell fresh and to appear neat and tidy at work. But what should you actually pay attention to when washing your work clothes? Work clothing has often undergone special treatment to protect you against the hazards at work and often becomes dirtier than regular clothing. That is why work clothing needs a little more care and attention. In this article we therefore give you a number of tips for washing your work clothing.

Temperature

Work clothes is often sturdy and strong. This is necessary, because it can encounter quite a bit of dirt and grime during your work. This usually means that the clothes can be washed a little hotter, but that is not always the case. Therefore, always read the label in the clothing first. Then you know for sure how hot your work clothing can be washed. Often the higher the temperature, the cleaner your clothes and the more dirt and bacteria will be washed from your clothes. Make sure you don't wash too hot. Your clothes may be nice and clean afterwards, but probably a size smaller and too-tight work clothing will not work well.

Prewash?

Sometimes your work clothes are so dirty that simply washing them is probably not enough. With many washing machines you can set an additional program for this, the so-called prewash. With an extra pre-wash, your work clothing will be extra cleaned and will be cleaner than after a regular wash. Tip: apply a layer of detergent to sweat spots. This loosens the dirt a bit and the result is often even better.

Can you just wash everything?

You cannot simply wash all company or work clothing. If you work with hazardous or toxic substances, it is not good to just wash them in your own washing machine. This allows you to wash the protective layer of your work clothing. So first ask your employer whether you can wash your work clothing at home or whether there is a separate protocol for this. This way you prevent accidents and unwanted surprises!

Colour

If you know that you can wash the company clothing in your own washing machine, there are a number of things you want to know in advance:

  • at what temperature you can wash it
  • with or without prewash
  • you have to sort the company clothing by color or even wash it separately.
This way you prevent unwanted color changes of your company clothing and the original colors are better protected and preserved.
