Frequently used in a wide variety of industries: overalls. Primarily, overalls seem to protect your clothing and keep them clean, but nowadays overalls usually have many more functions. Every day the overalls support many employees around the world during their work. But what types of overalls are there, and which ones do you need for your work and circumstances?
1. Flame retardant overalls
There are special ones flame retardant overalls that protect you against flames, sparks or hot metal splashes. These suits ensure that your clothing is less likely to catch fire. Flame-retardant overalls often have long sleeves and trouser legs, but are also available in the form of dungarees, also known American overalls. Especially the overalls from Roots are known for their flame retardant properties. When doing welding work, you will benefit from a work overall made of flame-retardant material and this type of overall is also widely used offshore.
2. Anti static overalls
Anti static safety clothing and overalls prevent electrostatic charges from creating sparks that could cause fires or explosions. An important feature which is mandatory in many industries under the umbrella standard EN1149. Well-known brands for anti static and flame-retardant overalls are Portwest and Roots. 3M is a well-known brand for light anti static (disposable) overalls. Overalls with both anti static and flame-retardant properties are mainly used in the offshore industry.

If it is not important for your work that your arms are covered, sleeveless overalls or dungarees are a particularly useful alternative to traditional overalls.
4. Disposable coveralls
Disposable overalls are often white thin overalls and are suitable for single use. Disposable overalls are used when processing chemicals or asbestos, but also in the food industry. The good lining makes this workwear particularly suitable for winter. A suitable winter coverall is lined with lightweight materials that provide maximum insulation. If you also work outside in bad weather it is wise to take these circumstances into account.
6. Waterproof overalls / rain overalls
Waterproof overalls are available in various designs and are not only seen among people in construction or industry, but also often among fishermen, for example. This overall has few seams and is waterproof. This type of overalls is therefore ideal for working outside in the wet seasons.
