Collection: Helly Hansen Bifrost

The Helly Hansen Bifrost collection is made for really cold environments. They are made for work well below zero. For these extreme temperatures, the Bifrost is your outer layer, such as a winter bib, winter jacket and work boots. The clothing complies with EN 343 class 4 for waterproofing, which means that the clothing is truly waterproof provided there is no extra pressure from outside on the clothing. They are also certified for EN 342 if you use a combination of the Winter Bib and a winter jacket, the latter meaning that it has been tested for extremely cold temperatures below -5 degrees Celsius. Both Bifrost work clothes and Bifrost work boots have been developed for maximum comfort. To keep the heat in, they use a Primaloft lining, which is an extremely light and flexible material that has been developed as an alternative to down. This is also used in ski boots and ski clothing. Together with techniques such as Life Pocket and H2 flow, the line is functional and comfortable.

Helly Hansen Bifrost Winter clothing

The Bifrost clothing collection is Helly Hansen's answer for the extremely cold areas. Combined with good base and mid layers, you can wear the collection of clothing in the Arctic Circle and still stay warm. Thanks to various techniques, the wearer remains warm and comfortable while still having freedom of movement.

Helly Hansen Bifrost Primaloft, H2 Flow, Helly Tech and Life Pockets for maximum use

The Helly Hansen Bifrost collection uses Primaloft, which is a lightweight down substitute. Where in the past a down lining was used for the extreme cold that kept the heat inside, nowadays there are materials such as Primaloft. This is lighter, more flexible but offers the same warmth. To make the jackets even more comfortable, they use H2 Flow, which are strategically placed water-repellent zippers to allow air into the clothing, which makes the jacket more breathable.

They use Helly Tech Professional outer material for the outside, which combined with taped seams ensures that dirt and wetness stays outside for as long as possible. For the extreme cold periods they also have a Life Pocket, this is a special pocket that provides protection for a mobile phone and tablet. The bag ensures that the battery drains less quickly due to the cold and is designed to open from the outside.

Bifrost EN 343 standard for watertightness

The Helly Hansen Bifrost work clothing meets the European Standard 343 for waterproofing, this is a standard that determines how quickly water passes through (based on (water) pressure. The clothing meets class 4 for waterproofing, which means a water column of 20,000 mm or 20 meters of water that it must withstand. This means that the jacket is practically waterproof and suitable for extreme weather conditions

Bifrost EN 342 for extreme cold

To provide maximum protection, this winter clothing has also been tested for extreme cold, which is subject to the EN 342 standard. In this case it has passed the tests, but in combination with the Bifrost Bib and a Bifrost work jacket, separately it does not meet the requirements. This test is based on how quickly heat passes through the jacket and how breathable the clothing is. A jacket that allows little heat to pass through and is not breathable is not comfortable, the clothing therefore has a class 3 air permeability, which increases comfort. .

Recycled materials

To make winter clothing better for the environment, recycled materials are used where this is a good substitute. For example, the Primaloft material is made from recycled material, which means that most of the insulating material is recycled. This also makes the work clothing better for the environment. The parka has a fake fur collar that can be removed, so the clothing is also free of animal products.

Helly Hansen Bifrost Metal Free Work Boots

An addition to the Bifrost collection are the work boots, both an S7 and an O6 variant. This means that they are waterproof for a long time, which is also necessary in snowy conditions. The S7 variant has a security toe cap and anti-penetration midsole made of a plastic material, so even with the BOA closures these work boots are metal-free. The O6 is an unprotected variant, which means that it does not have a steel toe or anti-penetration midsole, it is practically a hiking boot for extreme cold.

The BOA closures ensure easy and quick putting on and taking off the boots. You can see these closures in many places such as ski boots, work boots and cycling shoes. The rotating mechanism ensures that the force and tightness of the closure is distributed equally over the entire work boot. The BOA closures are also extremely wear-resistant, experience often shows that they really need to be cut before they break. If they break, replacements are available.

Full set of Helly Hansen Workwear

As mentioned earlier, the Bifrost collection is the outer layer, but in extremely cold temperatures this is not enough and you have to work with layers. This means thermal underwear, normal clothing and often a fleece or pile. Helly Hansen even has pile pants in the heritage collection to keep the heat in even better! In their extensive Lifa collection you have plenty of options for ice-cold and less cold weather when it comes to thermal underwear.
