EN ISO 20471 high visibility clothing

In our extensive range we believe it is important to offer options to protect the worker, high visibility clothing therefore offers options for people who work in locations where the wearer must stand out. Within Europe, the clothing must comply with this requirementEN ISO 20471, this standard specifies what colors the protective clothing must be and what surface retroreflective material must have.

You can find this information on the inside of the clothing through the icon with the class. The clothing is divided into 3 classes or warning level.

Most work clothing does not individually meet class 3 within the standards, because the surface area is too small. A big exception are often parkas or overalls, but by combining work trousers and a work jacket you can still reach class 3. Please note that the surface is the visible surface, which means that fluorescent material of the trousers that is hidden by the jacket may not be included. This class only applies to the combination of clothing.

High visibility jackets

Ahigh visibility jacketfrom a brand such as Helly Hansen, Tricorp or Blaklader offers extra visibility thanks to the reflective material. While most jackets are class 2 or 3 according to EN ISO 20471, a jacket may comply with class 1 thanks to contrasting colors such as black. Most brands offer different types of jackets such as pilot jackets, parkas, winter jackets, softshells or shell jackets to offer different options to the wearer. Within the various brands there are often collections with matching work jackets and work trousers.

High visibility trousers

Where a work jacket makes the upper body more visible, a combination of a work jacket with ahigh visibility work trousersbetter visibility. Reflective work trousers have a smaller surface area than a work jacket and therefore usually meet a maximum of class 1 or 2 and should be worn in combination with reflective outer clothing such as a hi-vis work jacket, fleece, sweater, polo or T-shirt.

High visibility outerwear

In addition to jackets, something else may be worn as outerwear during the summer months or within a building. This is why you can also find many other outerwear that complies with EN ISO 20471. This clothing usually has a smaller surface area than a jacket and therefore often only meets class 1 or 2, but this is sufficient in situations with speeds lower than 50 km/h. visibility. Other protective work clothing

In addition to high-visibility work clothing, other protection may also be required. This clothing is often at least flame retardant and antistatic, but there are also standards for extra protection during welding or protection against electric arcs.

In some situations, in addition to flame-retardant work clothing, it is also important that they offer visibility, which is why you will also find many clothing in multi-norm work clothing in high-visibility colors that comply with EN ISO 20471 for high-visibility clothing. The combination protects the wearer in most conditions.
