Metal-free safety boots are completely metal-free. What used to have a metal nose and anti-penetration midsole is replaced by a plastic toe and Kevlar midsole. These offer the same protection with improved comfort. The heavy metal parts have been replaced with lighter variants. Where a metal midsole has no flexibility, a metal-free midsole is more flexible and comfortable.
