To indicate exactly which safety measures a pair of safety boots complies with, there are legally established safety standards in the Netherlands. These standards make it easy for you to gain insight into exactly which protective properties the boots meet. The safety of the boots is indicated with a kind of quality mark that starts with an S. This S stands for “safety”. If you purchase safety boots with such a standard, you can be sure that these boots protect against certain safety risks. It does not mean that boots with a certain standard are less safe than boots with a different standard. The main point is that you can easily find the safety boots that suit you based on your work. For example, for some professions it is not necessarily necessary to have a puncture-resistant midsole in the safety boots.

The standards for safety boots are slightly different than for regular safety shoes. There you can simply say that a higher number behind the S means that the pair of safety shoes has more protective parts. This S3 standard also exists for safety boots. However, that does not mean that S5 safety boots are better or safer than S3 safety boots. In fact, S3 safety boots are very sturdy, safe safety boots that are guaranteed to protect your feet or those of your employees against bumps, objects falling on them or against penetration by water or something sharp. If safety standards are assigned to safety boots, in addition to the specific parts that protect your feet, attention is also paid to the materials the boots are made of.

Leather or rubber safety boots?

The majority of the safety boots in our range consist of S3 safety boots. In most cases, these are leather safety boots that are completely waterproof and dirt-repellent. Just like regular S3 safety shoes, S3 safety boots are completely anti static and have a number of important features that make work much safer and more pleasant for you. A profiled outsole, for example, that protects against slipping and can do wonders for your posture. Furthermore, S3 safety boots have a shock-absorbing heel, a closed heel and a protective toe cap. This can be a steel toe cap, although in recent years we have increasingly seen the use of remarkably compact plastic toe caps that provide the ideal combination of protection and comfort. In addition, they have a steel or plastic midsole that has been tested to prevent perforation under a load of 1100 N.

Would you like a rubber boot with an anti-perforation sole? Then there is nothing to worry about: S5 safety boots are also made of rubber or polymer and also have a protective toe cap and a puncture-resistant midsole made of steel or plastic. Plastic often costs a little more, but that material is generally experienced as more comfortable, because plastic bends much easier than steel. If you are afraid that a plastic sole will provide less protection than the steel alternative: that is not necessary. Safety boots only receive the S5 standard if this midsole, regardless of the material, can withstand a pressure of 1100 N.
